What is Hostname?

A hostname is a unique name assigned to any device that is connected to a specific computer network. Hostname helps the user to identify the network, hostname may be alphabetic or alphanumerics and limited symbols that are used to identify a particular network or device.

A hostname should be in the format of a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), for example
Ex: server.mydomain.com. It can be used to identify your server with a generic name assigned to it. The server hostname should not be changed very often. But here, let us discuss the below procedure to change the server’s hostname.

Steps to reset the hostname from WHM:

Step 1: Login to WHM with valid credentials.

Type username and password

Step2: Navigate to Network setup. Refer the below screenshot.


Step 3: Now click the change hostname option.


Step 4: The next screen will show you the current hostname and a list of sample hostnames and Randomly generated hostnames.
Step 5: Now You can enter the new hostname, after entering the new hostname, click on the Change button to save the new hostname.

That’s it!… Once you changed hostname successfully you will need to create an A Record for that new hostname.
