The newly created accounts will open a ‘404 error’ page or ‘index of’ page when no files are present in the mentioned cPanel account. If the resellers need to add a custom welcome page or documentation page for the newly created accounts, then it can be done with the option ‘Skeleton Directory‘ in WHM. Skeleton Directory allows copying the same files for every newly created account inside the public_html or public_ftp folders.
What is Skeleton Directory?
Skeleton Directory or Skel is the place where resellers can put a temporary home page for all the newly created cPanel accounts in your WHM. It is a feature available in WHM panel to add custom pages automatically. Anything placed in the skeleton directory of resellers is automatically copied to the home directory of a newly created cPanel account.
This feature in WHM can be useful to display a custom home page for the newly created cPanel accounts automatically. Let us discuss how to manage the skeleton directory in WHM with the below steps.
Steps to determine the Skeleton Directory Path:
The below steps is to know the location of the skeleton directory path in WHM.
Step 1: Login to WHM panel.
Step 2: Go to the option ‘Account Functions’. Then click the option Skeleton Directory.
Step 3: Now, a path will be displayed like /home/username/cpanel3-skel/public_html
in which ‘username’ is the name of the master cPanel.
Steps to Setup Skeleton Directory:
In WHM, the skeleton directory can be set up with the below steps which will be created automatically after creating a new cPanel account.
Step 1: Login to the primary cPanel account of your WHM. It means the primary account of your reseller panel.
Step 2: Go to the directory path “/home/cpanel3-skel/public_html”.
Step 3: Now, upload the appropriate website files and subdirectories in it. Whenever a new cPanel account is created, these custom files will be added automatically.
Thus, the skeleton directory in WHM can add custom files automatically for newly created cPanel accounts. It prevents the website from showing ‘index of’ or any other error page. This will be helpful to display a temporary homepage automatically for the websites. For more information, Like and Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
