The outlook is a product of Microsoft used to send, receive and store emails. It also uses personal information management tool. It includes Calendars, address books for storing the contacts, keeps notes, task remainder, etc. The multiple email accounts can be configured in an Outlook in a single computer.

Outlook also supports different mobile devices for having a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to use. It supports different SMTP and POP3 protocol types to store the emails locally and in the server.

“None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server” is one of the errors that occur during email configuration in Outlook. This error mostly occurs during a new server installation when the administrator forgot to enable SSL settings in the server end. Or it might be due to any Outlook misconfiguration settings. This error can be resolved by checking Outlook settings. Otherwise, it can be resolved by checking the email server settings in WHM panel.

Steps to Fix Outlook Error:

The ideal solution to fix this type of error is to enable SSL or STARTTLS in their email client. The email configuration settings can be changed in the WHM panel under ‘Exim Configuration Manager’. The root users can access this feature with the below steps. Shared and Reseller customers can contact their hosting provider to resolve this type of issues.

Step 1: Login your WHM panel with a valid Username and Password.

Step 2: Navigate to service Configuration and select the “Exim Configuration Manager”. This option is available in VPS and Dedicated Servers.

Step 3: Go to Security option from the menu bar.
In this, turn off the option “Require clients to connect with SSL or issue the STARTTLS command before they are allowed to authenticate with the server”.

Step 4: Click the Save Button.

Step 5: Now, restart the email server and check again by configuring Outlook.

Alternative Methods:

Repair Outlook:

Another method to resolve this Outlook error is to check the incoming and outgoing port settings. This error may occur if the Outlook email account is not configured to log on to the incoming server before sending the email. But the Internet Service Provider (ISP) requires to authenticate SMTP to send the email. It can be resolved by repairing the Outlook or re-configuring it.

Disable or Uninstall Anti-virus:

If you face this type of error, you can check by disabling the anti-virus software in the system. And also, check by disabling the firewall in the router because the firewall may block the incoming and outgoing ports. Once it is done, check by restarting the system. If it works, then remove the anti-virus tool or add an exception in the firewall settings.

Ensure Outgoing Server Connection Enabled:

If you receive the above error message in Outlook, fix it with the below steps

  • Click File -> Account Settings, select the particular email account and click the option Change
  • Click the option ‘More Settings’ and navigate to the section Outgoing Server
  • Enable the checkbox ‘My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires Authentication’ and use same settings as my incoming server
  • Click OK and then move next to the settings page
