Three ways to change  WordPress username

There are Three methods to change the WordPress Username on the WordPress they have briefly explain below, let go with the below articles one by one.

Type 1: How to add a New User and Delete Admin User

The first type is to change WordPress username is the simplest way in it. This method was simple in which we create a new user with the same admin privileges and delete the previous default admin user.

Follow the below steps:

  1. Add A New User

Add-new

Once logged in WP, go to Dashboard > Users and select option Add New.

This step is very critical in order to save all the content that you had created with the previous user. Tick the option Attribute all content to and from a drop-down menu choose the New admin username in it.

Once you have selected the newly created account, you can then click on the Confirm Deletion button to delete the user.

Now you will not see the old admin on the users’ list and all the previous content is assigned to the new user that you had selected in step 5.

Type 2: Steps to change WordPress username by using a plugin

There was another way to change your WordPress username is by using a WordPress plugin in it. If you don’t feel comfortable by installing a plugin every time for each task, then there is no harm in using most of these plugins because you can safely delete them once you have changed the username.

You can simply update the username and add a new username in the below field and that it will update your current username on the WordPress username

Here is a list of plugins that you can use for changing usernames: Username Changer, Admin renamer extended and WPVN – Username Changer.wp-username-changer

Although this is a quick and easy way to change WordPress username, I wouldn’t suggest you use this method because using a plugin for every problem can slow down your website and can also leave it vulnerable to attacks.

Type 3: Steps to change your WordPress username using PHPMyAdmin

The mentioned above two methods to change WordPress username are simple in usage and helps you to change your username quickly. But this method is a bit more complicated than the previous two methods, as you have to make direct changes to your WordPress database. It is recommended to avoid direct changes in the database whether you are a technical person or not.

But in some times, there is no option left and you have to enter the details from the backend and update the user details. For example, if you have forgotten your WordPress username and email address, then you can’t be able to access the WordPress dashboard.

We can go with this method to change the username in WordPress:

  1. Login into cPanel

First, Login to the cPanel and select the Databases section from your cPanel.Phpmyadmin

  1. Select Database

Select the database of your website.

Database

  1. Select wp_users table

By default, WordPress database tables use wp_ as a prefix before each table in the database tables. Find the table named “wp_users” and then click the wp_users that you want to edit.

  1. Change the values

Click the Edit option on the users and change the user_login value to whatever you want. For example, you can replace “admin” to “YOUR-NAME”.

User Edit

Click the save button on the database tables and try logging into your account again.

Conclusion

We hope by now you know how you can change WordPress username. We highly recommend you use Method 1 if you don’t want to install the plugin. There is no harm in using the plugin for changing the username as well. But once you are Admin details has been locked out and you have no other option left, there is only one method left and that is to access your WordPress database and change the values.
