Backup and Restore emails in cPanel webmail

Webmail is web-based email accounts. These are usually free email accounts that are operated from a website. Examples include Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. Webmail allows the users to access their emails as long as they have access to an Internet connection and a web browser. This also means that the user cannot read an old email or draft a new email offline. To backup and restore the emails in cPanel, follow the below steps

Step 1: Login to the webmail account

Step 2: Select the required emails which are to be backup, and click on ‘More’ icon in the taskbar

Step 3: In the dropdown list, select the Download (.eml) option and specify the location to save the emails

Step 4: To restore the emails using Roundcube webmail, click on Gear icon and choose the option ‘Import messages’

Step 5: Choose the backup file which is to be imported and click the option ‘Upload’

Step 6: Once it is done, a successful message for the import will be displayed

NOTE: .eml files are supported by most of the email services, so you can easily restore them later on different servers.

Unfortunately, Roundcube does not provide convenient functionality to download many emails at once, so if you want to back up the whole folder or account, we recommend using Horde instead.

Step 4 In order to import (restore) the emails using Roundcube webmail, click on Gear icon > choose Import messages.

Step 5 Choose the backup file you wish to be imported and click the option ‘Upload’.

Step 6 Once done, you will get a notification the messages have been successfully imported.
