Wordfence is a security plugin in WordPress which helps to protect the website from security threats like hacking, DDOS, malware and brute force attacks. It comes along with the website application firewall, which blocks suspicious requests and filters all traffic to the website. Also, the Wordfence plugin has a malware scanner option which helps to clean a hacked WordPress website by scanning all the core files, themes, plugins and folders in the website.

The basic version of Wordfence plugin is free, but premium version is also available which gives the user to access more advanced features including country blocking, firewall rules updated in real time, scheduled scanning and etc. Here we will show you about installing the Wordfence plugin and Wordfence setup for maximum security.

Installation and Setup Wordfence in WordPress:

The easiest way to install the Wordfence plugin is to use the plugin search. For that, the user needs to go to the WordPress admin area and click on Plugins>>Add New.

Type¬†in the search bar with the plugin name as “Wordfence” in the top right corner. Now the user can view the plugin and install it using the button ‘Install Now’. WordPress will download the plugin and install it automatically. After the successful installation, it will display a success message with a link to activate the plugin or Return to plugin installer. The user should activate the plugin to start using it.

To activate the plugin, click on the plugins in the menu bar and the list of plugins will be listed. Click on “Activate” button to activate the plugin.

Upon activation, Wordfence will be added to the admin bar. To set up the Wordfence plugin, click on it and it will take the user to the plugin’s settings dashboard. In the settings page, it has different sections such as Scan, Blocking, Firewall and so on.
