NTFS (New Technology File System) is a file system introduced by Microsoft in 1993 with the release of Windows NT 3.1. This file system is used for storing and retrieving files in a hard disk. It is the primary file system used in Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT operating systems. NTFS files cannot be accessed by other operating systems such as DOS. It offers better methods for protecting data and also for recovering files.
