The two FTP servers in cPanel and WHM:

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a network protocol used to transfer files between client and server on a network. It is built on a client-server architecture and it uses separate control and data connections between client and server. FTP Servers available in cPanel and WHM is

  • PureFTP
  • ProFTP

Both the PureFTP and ProFTP are open source software available free of cost that is designed to run on Unix-like Operating Systems.

You can change the FTP server type for your VPS and dedicated server by following the below steps.

Step 1: Login to your WHM as the Root account

Step 2: Navigate to the “Service Configuration” feature as shown in the below image

Step 3: Now click on the “FTP Server Configuration” selection

Step 4: Now you can change the FTP server mode as per your requirement.

Comparisons between PureFTP and ProFTP:

  1. PureFTP transfers files faster when compared to ProFTP.
  2.  The PureFTP does not display statistics in the statistics menu about file transfer.
  3. And PureFTP supports virtual user quotas whereas PostFTP does not support virtual user quotas.
  4. ProFTP displays and monitors the information about the usage of bandwidth.
