Addon Domain:

An addon domain is a fully managed functional domain that can be created from your own control panel. It means multiple domains can be hosted within a single cPanel. A cPanel user can create separate email addresses, forwarders, databases and much more for an addon domain.

When an add-on domain is created in a cPanel, the directory of the domain will be automatically created by the system. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change or modify the directory for an addon domain. This article can help you to change the directory for an addon if it was pointed to an incorrect folder accidentally.

Steps to change the directory for an Addon Domain:

Add-on domains are the secondary domains hosted on a single cPanel account. It works independently with individual email accounts, forwarders, databases and more. Here, the steps to modify the directory are mentioned below

Step 1: Log in to the cPanel with the username and password.

Step 2: Under Domain, click on the section ‘Addon domains’.

Step 3: In the section ‘Addon Domains’, go to the option ‘Modify Addon Domain’. To change the directory for the addon, click on the pencil icon under the column ‘Document Root’.

Step 4: Now, a pop-up will appear in cPanel about the document root for the add-on domain. The document root can be edited and changed with the option ‘Change’.

Once the directory is changed, you should be able to view the website. If the website shows 404 error, then the changed directory is incorrect and it should be mentioned correctly. Thus, this article helps to change/modify the directory for an add-on domain.
