A bitmap (or raster graphic) is a common graphics format. The bitmap image is a digital image that consists of a matrix of individual dots or pixels that have their own color. In a standard bitmap image, different color is assigned for each dot. Together, these dots can be used to represent any type of rectangular picture. The standard, uncompressed bitmap format is also known as “BMP” format. Other bitmap image formats such as JPEG, GIF, and PNG and incorporate compression algorithms to reduce the size of the file.
