421 Too Many Connections Error:

421 Too Many Connections Error has occurred when the number of FTP connections exceeded than the allocated connections. Most of the time this error is caused due to the non-active FTP connections are not being closed. If you are in a shared hosting environment, hosting provider may limit the number of connections to prevent the server being overloaded.
VPS, Dedicated hosting plans can the ability to change the number of connections allowed in the WHM panel. But for reseller and shared plan holders can be used up to eight FTP connections for one IP address at a time. They can’t use more than eight connections at a time. If the limits get exceeded, then it will throw you 421 Too Many Connections Error. Here we will show you how to solve this error in an FTP client. We have taken FileZilla for this tutorial.

Steps to fix the Too Many Connections Error:

To increase the limit of connections allowed in FileZilla, follow the below steps.
Step 1:
Open FileZilla FTP client.
Step 2:
Click on File button on the top corner and access the Site manager option. You can also use “ctrl+s” to open the site manager window.
Step 3:
Click on “Transfer Settings” button in the side menu. There you can increase the number of connections by increasing the value in “Maximum number of connections”. Set the value to 8 in it.
Step 4:
A popup window will be opened. Choose the site you want to increase the limit in the “Select Entry” box.
Step 5:
Click the “OK” button. Now you can access the account at eight FTP connections simultaneously.
The above steps are used to increase the number of connections allowed in FTP. If the error persists, then you should drop the non-active connections. You can drop the connections by using cPanel.

Dropping non-active connections via cPanel:

Follow the below steps to drop the non-active connections.
Step 1:
Login to your cPanel and go to FTP connections in the FILES section.
Step 2:
It will show you all FTP connections available to your account. You can drop the connections by clicking on the “Disconnect” button.
Step 3:
It will take you to the new window which asking the confirmation for disconnecting the connection. Click on the Disconnect button again.
Step 4:
Repeat the steps to delete the non-active connections.
