Network Interface Card (NIC) is a computer hardware component which enables the computer to connect to a network. It can be used for both wired and wireless connections. Most of the new computers have a network interface which can be built directly into the motherboard. This can also be an integrated component in a router, USB device or printer interface if this card is not integrated into the motherboard. A separate NIC is no longer needed.
