MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III is commonly referred as MP3. This is an audio coding format for digital audio. It was designed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) as a part of the MPEG-1 standard. Later it was extended to the MPEG-2 standard. MP3 files can store a song or the whole CD which requires only a small hard drive space.
