ZIP File Format was created by Phil Katz in 1989 and it was first implemented in PKWARE, Inc’s PKZIP utility. This file format is mainly used on Windows-based PCs which is used for both compression and archiving. In this format, multiple files can be reduced in size inside a single zip file.  It is one of the first file formats that supports archive splitting. It means that a zip file can be split into multiple parts.
