3GP (3GPP File Format) stands for Third Generation Partnership Project. This file format is a multimedia container format used in 3G-enabled cellular phones. This format is used for making the file sizes smaller so that it could use less bandwidth for streaming videos and music on mobile phones. It is a mobile-friendly version of the “bulkier” MP4 files. These file formats can be viewed on a personal computer and there is no need of a 3G phone to view files with .3gp extension files.
