ALGOL is short for Algorithmic Language. It is a computer programming language developed in the mid-1950s. It was jointly developed by a committee of European and American scientists in a meeting at ETH Zurich in 1958. This language was mostly used by research computer scientists in the United States and in Europe. The three main official versions of Algol are Algol 58, Algol 60, and Algol 68. Each of the official versions is named after the year which it was published.
