Port 21:
Port 21 is used as the default TCP port for FTP connection. You can connect to your FTP account through port 21. If you are having some issues while connecting to your account means, port 21 may be blocked by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). In this article, we will show you some of the easy ways to check whether port 21 is blocked or not. For that, you will need access to the command shell (Windows), console terminal (Linux), or MacOS terminal.
On Windows OS:
Follow the below steps to check the port 21 status in windows.
Step 1: Click the option of “Start Menu” in the bottom left corner in the monitor.
Step 2: Click the option in the left corner of the monitor “Run” and type “cmd” in the text box. Otherwise, you can use the shortcut key to access this and the key is windows+R.
Step 3: You can see a black window called command prompt.
Step 4: Type telnet yourdomain.com 21 and click “Enter”.
On Linux OS:
Follow the below steps in Linux OS to check the status of Port 21
Step 1: Open your terminal emulator in Linux. In order to open shell terminal window press the following keys simultaneously Ctrl+Alt+T.
Step 2: Now you can see a terminal window and type “telnet yourdomain.com 21” then click on the Enter button.
On MacOS:
Follow the below steps on MacOS.
Step 1: Go to the “Application Directory”.
Step 2: Click the “Utilities” subdirectory. It will open you a command line terminal.
Step 3: Enter the following command line followed by “Enter”.
telnet yourdomain.com 21
If the above tests went correctly, you can see a Welcome message like this.
220———- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ———-
220-You are user number 20 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 08:25. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system – No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 5 minutes of inactivity.
