Docker is an open source software platform. Docker can build, secure and manage the applications from development to production on both premises and in the cloud. It uses Linux Kernel and some features of Kernel to segregate the processes so that they can run independently. It can package the applications and its dependencies in a virtual container to run on any Linux server. So that the applications can be flexible and portable to run on any premises, public cloud, private cloud, and etc. It was initially released as an Open source in March 2013 and now in 2017, the software had been downloaded by more than 13 billion.
