The first computer worm, Morris worm or Internet worm is distributed via the Internet. It was the first to gain significant mainstream media attention. It was created and launched by Robert Tappan Morris on November 2, 1988, from the computer systems of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was purposely intended to evaluate Internet security.
